Great Outdoor Adventure Trips

October 18th, 2009

Goat (Great Outdoor Adventure Trips) is a ministry located right here in Greenville that takes underprivaledged and “at-risk” youth from our community on outdoor adventure trips. These rafting, climbing and backpacking trips help show the participants God through His creation while teaching them valuable leadership and outdoor skills.

The Goat Cornhole classic was Goat’s first ever fundraiser event and raised enough money to send 20 kids on trips during our summer programs for 2010.  The majority of our  participants haven’t experience anything like this, and could never afford to.   Donations and fundraising efforts cover the costs so they don’t have to.

We are proud to support Goat and look forward to being involved in with their ministry.  To learn more about them or get in touch, visit their website at www.goattrips.com.

Now Available – Customer Online Stores

October 1st, 2009

Yes indeed.  Online stores are a new and exciting free service for all our customers.  Since many of our clients reorder the same products repeatedly, we thought it would be a good idea to give them something to make it all so much easier.

Having an online store will give you the ability to shop your own products, view them in high detail, look up past orders, order and pay online (multiple forms of payment available), and print your own receipts.

We also added a gallery of design samples that are available for your use.  Pick the one you like and we’ll customize it with all your information.  The gallery is growing with more designs being added every week!

Friday Night Art Scene

September 4th, 2009

If you’re needing something to do this weekend, come mix and mingle at Greenville’s local art scene, First Fridays. On the first Friday of each month, local artists open their art and studios to the public. One of our favorite studios to visit is the Art and Light Studio on Pendleton Street. This is home to some notable Greenville artists like Lily Stratton and Barb Blair.  http://artandlightgallery.blogspot.com/2009/03/greenvilles-first-friday-event-gets.html

This Friday, September 4, starting at 6:30, we are teaming up  with local textile artists from Fox to the Opera. We will be printing some T-shirt designs for them as well as some of our own. They will be available for sale this weekend as well as throughout the rest of the month.  Also take a look below at some of Fox to the Opera’s other work (pictured below). These artists draw inspiration from Vintage textile designs and quilting styles. They also incorporate into their work antique charms and sewing notions that they’ve acquired from preceding generations. This fusion of old and new, we think, is sure to start a hot trend in fabric jewelry and textile arts.   Check out their website at www.foxtotheopera.etsy.com

To get to Art and Light Studios, follow Academy past downtown toward Easley.  Shortly after passing downtown, turn right onto Pendleton st.  Art and Light Studios will be the triangle-shaped building on your left a few blocks down.   The will be open Saturday afternoon as well!  Contact them at the link above for more information about their hours.

The Smart Cheater

August 27th, 2009

Every now and then we just come across a great idea. This particular shirt is a winner in humerous concept, but for real, don’t wear it to History class. Disclaimer: Dapper Ink will not be responsible for anyone getting expelled from school. However, we will be responsible for people looking good and feeling great in their new swag.

History of the Tee Shirt

August 19th, 2009

We’re proud to be the official outfitter for The History Bluff, a fake history site that quite literally makes history every day. We asked them if they could educate our readers about the beginning of the t-shirt; they agreed and presented us with the following narrative:

Mongol soldiers model several types of tiishahs for the Khan.

Claiming to be on a mission from heaven, Genghis Khan and his Mongol horde surged through Eurasia with surprising speed befitting that of a well-organized army. The army’s precision was due in part to years spent on the battlefield, but credit for their success should go to the tiishah, a colored fabric or jersey that was hung over each warrior’s armor.

Genghis had several generals under his command, under which were many different types of troops. This called for a sophisticated system of identification that only the tiishah could meet. Subotai, the Khan’s best general, proposed that each general be assigned a color and that general’s soldiers would wear different shades and sleeve lengths based on warrior type and rank.

For years the Mongols sacked cities and upended trade routes with frightening efficiency because of their ability to quickly identify their comrades both nearby and far away on the battlefield. Oftentimes, Subotai’s red team would engaged in a frontal attack with Arslan’s blue team swept through the defenders from the flank.

Long after tiishah rode on Mongol backs across desert plains and flowing grasslands, this colored piece of fabric has grown into a worldwide phenomenon we now know as the t-shirt.

Greenville Cargo Project

August 18th, 2009

We are excited to provide tee shirts for another great fundraising event. Off The Coast Ministries and Christina Nicole Studios have partnered together to head up the Greenville Cargo Project. This local project has an international impact by turning a standard 40’ shipping container into a new daycare center for children in a South African township. The container will be completely retrofitted here in Greenville between August and November and will include a bathroom, kitchen, and classroom when finished. To accomplish the project, volunteers are needed to assist in construction, to gather gifts in kind, and to help raise shipping funds. Businesses, individuals, churches, rotaries, and small groups can get involved in many ways to help provide a healthier facility for these needy children. For more information on the project and to get involved, email info@offthecoast.org or phone 864.354.4864. Help send dreams to South Africa in 2009.

To support their efforts by getting your own shirt, you can contact Off The Coast Ministries with the above information.  All sizes are available at $12.00 each.

Hunger Hurts

July 20th, 2009

One of our clients, Liquid Highway, recently hosted their second annual “Hunger Hurts” fast and food drive here in Greenville. Though they set a goal of collecting 10,000 pounds of food to donate to local food kitchens, their collection exceeded 21,000 pounds.

Not to be left out of this wonderful endeavor, Dapper Ink donated to Liquid Highway 100 shirts to show our support. Our art director came up with an amazing hand drawn design (shown below). Keep an eye out for this shirt around town. These were given away to those who attended the food drive and showed their support by donating goods. We are already looking forward to participating next year. When the time comes, bring some food and get your own.

New Packaging Design

July 2nd, 2009

Even though our main focus is apparel design and printing, we’re certainly not afraid to branch out into other realms of the print industry. For us, the two design worlds of paper and apparel came together over the project that has kept us the busiest this summer, providing staff shirts for the Wilds camp in Brevard, North Carolina.

Because the Wilds has such an extensive staff, organizing and distributing their t-shirts can be quite the task. When we were asked if we could package the shirts in such a way to make this process easier, we welcomed the project. The first step to coming up with the best way to package the shirts was gathering inspiration for packaging designs. Besides collecting examples of good design as you come across them (we admit Fossil as one of our favorite sources), one of the best ways to start is a simple trip to the art section of your local Barnes & Noble. After a couple hours of looking, our art director came home with an excellent and rather expensive book of bags, tags, and label designs.

Well, we’ve pictured our finalized work. We thought a wide band with the camp information and the shirt size was best. We banded together the two shirts ordered by the Wilds, one short sleeve, one long, each one folded perfectly around a piece of chip board. The staff at the Wilds camp were so excited to get these, and we definitely think that we simplified their distribution process.

We are continually thankful for their business, an are already looking forward to next year’s edition.

Peak 7 Adventures

May 28th, 2009

We are thrilled to complete our first project for one of our newest clients, Peak 7 Adventures. This camp in Spokane, Washington strikes a particular cord with us. Peak 7 provides high intensity excursions for underprivileged kids, taking them into nature to teach them valuable lessons about teamwork and especially trust–trust in teammates and trust in God. We like this ministry for their heart and of course for their activities. Among the primary treks at Peak 7 are rafting, mountain climbing, and backpacking trips–some of our favorite things to do.

In the project we finished for Peak 7, we supplied shirts for their first ever Bocce Ball tournament (also one of our favorite pastimes). We’ve posted pictures to show you the designs and some of the people wearing the t-shirts. Congratulations to them for reaching their fundraiser goal of over $20,000.

You are what you wear

March 17th, 2009

Texture, design, style, fabric, color, and imprint – we encourage mixing all of these elements in a way that strengthens your brand.  We just finished a job for Camp Ironwood, one of our clients in California, who chose perfect design elements to fit their personality. To match the dry, dusty terrain of Central California, they created a distressed design for their staff tee (scroll done a couple posts to see). Now they’ve matched it with a fatigued hat whose fabric and styling continue to reinforce their image.
